still important in today’s society?
In this essay I will be discussing the different aspect
music video brings into today’s society. My argument will be to what extent music
video has influenced us in a positive way by arguing both sides: For example reasons
why they are important and reasons why they are not important.
Music video allows the artist to show an expression of their art and personality. A way of showcasing their views through politically and economically or in their individual's views. Which leads to the ultimate question, what is the purpose of a music video?
Musical videos are visuals that shadow musical performances. When showing performance on television, it is essential that visuals are used to create an understanding basis for the audience. the music video allows fulfilling all the purposes for the targeted audience to want to watch the video again so that the views go up. it is also a great way for the performer to boost their image and become different from everyone else and stand out.
However, individuals minds are twisted with images from songs, melodies, and lyrics in which music videos have influenced and made a big impact on people’s attitude and their lifestyles; these images shape the way people think in their everyday lives. Regardless of what an artist is singing or rapping about in their music video, you will always see a sexual hint. Clearly, you can see women being portrayed in music videos in a sexual way this may not affect how you feel at first, but after seeing this happen over and over in different music videos may make people treat women with less respect. How women are portrayed in this way comes with many consequences.
Most rap videos today show sexually disapproving and harmful depictions and treatment of women, mainly women of colour. Women are stereotyped in music videos because they are often portrayed as hypersexual, selfish, and amoral, examinations of music videos have publicized this. They are also portrayed as non-educated and very gettable. By watching music videos people might bring to a close that the world is made up of light skin and white women. Disregarding the massive series of colours in between, a lot of women in music videos today are light skin, white, Asian, and Latina and it could be hard on women and young girls who don’t like this. Their representation frequently overemphasizes their sexualized, physical looks and places them as attractive objects rather than active agents in the music videos. This links to bell Hooks theocratic perspective on feminist views in music videos; where Hooks stated
Music videos are created to fit certain audiences. However, what makes music video fundamental in our society is music videos use the convention of parodies to appeal to all kinds of audiences. For example, Christina Aguilera's 'Genie in a bottle'. can be deemed appealable for different audiences for different genre 0f music. This shows that the artist has the audience in mind when they are making and producing music videos. The convention of parody makes the idea of the music video less serious giving it a humourous and fun aspect. This works well for any genre ranging from rock to pop.
similarly, music videos can overall be important to the music industry because it is a way of exploring an artist and a directors creativity and views. they give young talent an opportunity to break into different areas of the film industry. The media looks at music videos for discovering new talent and those ideas are then applied to other things.
